Topic: Neuros HD40=Junk?

Noob here. 
I was looking through the "I have a budget of. . . ." thread in the FAQ and decided to check ebay for some of the recorders on the list.  This Neuros HD40 (I think they call it the 1?) popped up for dirt cheap.  Listing

The seller says it needs an update to work again, which one can download from Neuros.
Since the price is so low, what am I really risking here?  My time messing with a crappy box?
