playback of flac24's?
« on: August 08, 2006, 10:02:22 PM »
Is there a media player out there that can play flac24's?  Whenever I play them through winamp it's all scratchy and messed up.  Anyone?

For one thing, you need a 24-bit sound card...

Thanks Jason.  I'll give it a try.

I don't think that's it at all.  My 24 bit wavs play fine.  Just flac.

I had no problem with winamp or foobar. went with foobar ultimately as it utilized fewer resources. If I am not mistaken, winamp requires a flac plugin?

Same here. Even with an old 700 mhz machine.
It’s all about how it’s configured

The important point here is that no software can fully overcome the limitations of your hardware. And everyone's experience will depend on what audio source, playback client, driver and hardware they are using.

For example.. If you have a ua5 connected to your PC in 16/44 mode, that is all that it will play. Your playback software, or the driver, must convert that audio to 16/44 before sending to the ua5. There are many ways to do that conversion and some are pretty nasty.

So just because you can 'play' a 24 bit file doesn't mean you are hearing 24 bit playback, etc.
