Title: Firewire interface
Post by: crunchy on July 18, 2004, 05:07:34 PM
A buddy of mine just bought a powerbook and was asking me for some recomendations for a firewire  recording device. I recommended either the edirol fa-101 or M-Audio FW 410. Those are both in his price range (500 or less)  and have the connections he is looking for (mic pre's and line inputs). Are there any other units that I am forgetting? If those are the only two in that range which should he go with? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

does he have a pre and or a/d converter? Or looking for an all in one firewire interface? The m-audio 410 from what caymanreview has told me is good stuff, especially when modded by oade. M audio also makes a firewire audiophile, just an interface to feed signal to your lappie via firewire, but its solid also if he already has a pre/a-d

Right now he just has mics and is lookign for an all in one solution.  Do you know if the  FW 410 can be bus powered? IF it can I think I might recommend the 410  over the edirol unit since it can be had for a lot less. Thanks for the reply.

the FW410 can be bus powered. needs a 6pin port, but not a problem with a powerbook.

what is he powering the powerbook with?

He isnt going to be using it for location recording so I think he's just going to be using the wall plug, thanks for the info.
