V3 Question???
« on: May 29, 2004, 01:05:34 PM »
What is the best way to split the signal coming out of the V3? I have seen the patch bays for sale but dont want to spend $200 just for patchers. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thats it??? there will be no real degradation to the signal coming out? The reason is that I have gone to PDA  or laptop and there is laways the guy who wants to patch off your rig and if possible I want to accomodate them...thats the kind of guy I am like the rest of you I'm sure  :-)

instead of a splitter, you could use the S/PDIF output for yourself, and buy a 110ohm XLR cable and an impedance transformer, and use the AES output for patchers.  that's what I do...

unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera, so no pictures of my setup.  but this has been discussed before on this board as well, look around for a bit.

the 110 ohm cable just looks like a regular, short XLR cable.  some people will tell you that a regular mic cable is fine.  it's true that for short runs, you can probably get away with it, but if you are not using a 110 ohm cable, you are increasing the chances of jitter/drop-outs/other problems with the digital signal.  the cable is fairly cheap, so why not get the proper cable.

the impedance transformer will get the signal from 110 ohms to 75 ohms, the standard for digi coax.  the Canare MCJ-XJ-TR impedance transformer is what I have, I think a few other companies make a similar product.

here's another good link to check out as well:

The way I see it, the V3 already has two digi outs, it's better to use them both, instead of using a splitter.  hope this helps you out a bit...

also, the 110>75 ohm converter isnt really needed in such a short run of cable.....
