Lovin the Firewire audiophile

This thing is great. Not only is it easy to use for doing 24bit recordings, it makes an excellent headphone amp so you can listen to 24/96 recordings on your laptop with out having to use the headphone input on the lappy. With my sony headphones the recordings sound great. Also can use it to conncet your laptop to any stereo receiver either via spdif out or rca out, so listening to 24/96 is easy anywhere pretty much. What a great little unit, not that I am suprised, I have had nothing but good experiences with m-audio products like the audiohpile 2496.

I second your thoughts on M-Audio!  I have both an Audiophile2496, and a 1010LT and love them both.  Never had problem one with them!! ;D

you can plug it into your stereo!!  holy shit...how much are these things??

edit:  saw creeks thread in comp. recording.  $175  I think I need one of these.

It's got SPDIF out and RCA out depending on what your stereo can take. If you got a spdif input on your receiver and it can do 24/96 you will have an easy way to shoot 24/96 music from your labtop straight to your stereo.

It retails for $349.99, I got one off of ebay for $175, said it was like new/refurbished, but the one I got was brand spanking new.

Gonna add it to my want list.  Man I have gear lust real bad :-[  Gonna make some major upgrades after I start working (damn affirmative action) and get squared away.  So far on the list: new mics, cables, playback system, stand/mounts, and the firewire audiophile ;D

I am an owner of a MAC G5 DP 2.0

After experiencing a lot of serious probles, including the DESTRUSCTION of a 200 G FW ewt HD, I wrote to M-audio, end on 18 of june, M-audio released this letter:

You are receiving this bulletin as a registered owner of an M-Audio FireWire product.

Attn: IEEE 1394 "FireWire" Users

Thank you for purchasing an M-Audio FireWire product. Reports have come to our attention of isolated problems when hot-plugging IEEE 1394 (aka "FireWire") devices. (Hot-plugging refers to making 1394/FireWire connections when one or more of the devices--including the computer--is on.)

When hot-plugging, there are rare occurrences where either the FireWire peripheral or the FireWire port on the host computer is rendered permanently inoperable. While M-Audio products adhere rigidly to the FireWire industry standard and pass stringent internal testing, the possibility remains that hot-plugging your M-Audio FireWire interface with some computers may result in the type of problem described here.

We strongly encourage you to protect your equipment by refraining from hot-plugging any bus-powered FireWire device, including the M-Audio family of FireWire products. Connect your FireWire device while both the computer and FireWire device are powered off. Power on the FireWire device, then turn the computer on last. If you are using bus power (systems
with IEEE1394 6-pin connectors) make sure you make the cable connection first, then turn the FireWire device power switch on, and turn the computer system on last.

M-Audio is being proactive in investigating any issues that may adversely affect our customers. Please consult the Knowledge Base in the Support section at www.m-audio.com for updates on this important issue.


In case your M-Audio FireWire device is not detected by your computer on startup, try one or more of the following troubleshooting steps instead of hotplugging it:

1. Turn your M-Audio FireWire device off, wait 30 seconds then power it on.

2. Put your computer into hibernation mode, wait 30 seconds then reactivate it.

3. Restart the computer (don't turn it off) while the M-Audio FireWire device remains connected and powered on.

already saw that, I never hot plug with it, plug it in, keep it off, boot up the PC, then power on the firewire audiophile

shit..did you fry your firewire port doing that? that sucks....glad I saw the warning before I tried using it, but working in the PC world I never hot swap if I can avoid it, too many things can go wrong.

Wasn't me, it was on a Apple forum... When I was looking for that device that was one of the first searches I came accross...
