just curious whether anybody has run this combo and if they like the sound over just going for a V3 or just a Mini-Me for that matter.

I have not had a chance to run this combo myself, but I have been listening to alot of shows on the internet archive that have used this set-up. To my ears, I think that this is a great sounding combo.

Of course, there is more gear to carry in your bag than going with a V3 or Mini-Me exclusively.

IMO, I find that the V2/Mini-Me combo sounds better than running a V3 or a Mini-Me by themselves. Again, this opinion was only formed by the recordings I have listened to on the Archive.

The microphones you run in front are also a major factor. What type of mics do you want to run in front?

I would perform a search for recordings on the Archive that use this combo. Type in V2, minime, or mini-me as the keywords and a bunch of shows will come up. http://www.archive.org/audio/etree.php

i haven't considered this yet.  i am strongly considering moving to a pair of LD mics though.

The recordings will tend to be little brighter and more open sounding than either the straight V3 or MMe. At least with DPA 4011's in front.
mics: Soundfield ST450, JW mod Milab VIP-50's, Milab VM-44 Links (Matched Cards, Matched S-Cards), BR mod Nak 700's
pre's: Audio Developments AD 066(11), V2, Littlebox, Tinybox, Reutelhuber
recorders: Sonosax SX-R4, Tascam DR-680, Korg MR-1, Tascam DR-2, Mackie DL32R
playback: Teac UD-501 DAC > Meyer Sound

ran it for a little bit back on late 2002, early 2003.

Great combo but got to be too much gear to tote around.

The V2 kept things nice and tight while the mini-me added some nice punch and warmth.

I still run this rig (mg300>v2>MME>vx pocket) and love it.  been runnin it for about 3 years now and really love the way the apogee contrasts the v2 sound.  they kind of keep eachother in check.  shows does with either MG's or KM184's >v2>mme are always sure to please...

I picked up a v2 for super-cheap last year ($650) and have been running it on and off with my 170s.  Lately I've been opting for the PSP-2 instead though.  Probably not much of a difference, but I seem to prefer it.

Haven't used the preamps built into the mini-me in YEARS.

I have a friend that is selling this combo along with some MBHO actives.  Will probaby be posted in yard sale pretty soon.  I almost picked it up but as mentioned above started thinking it was too much EQ for me to carry around.   If you want to hear the combo with the HOs just search the archive for MBHO and Grout.
