SLA fast charging
« on: May 25, 2005, 02:22:07 AM »
Anyone had experience with fast chargers?

This thing looks neat. A small pulse fast charger at 10A with automatic shutoff.

Think it could safely charge three 12V 12A SLA's at once (configured in parallel)? Would they really charge in ~4 hours?

ps.
Are all SLA's pretty much the same hunk of lead?

Im guessing that would blow the roof off your Battery. No really..

I would first check your battery makers recommendations first before buying anything.
I would prolly not go over 1.5 amp.. My 12v7Ah batts max charge rate is 1.5Amp

I use this to charge my old SLA's (which will be going on the market here pretty soon as I have switched to Lithium..)

Forgot to add....this charger can be found at walmart for under $20

Pulse style fast chargers are meant for batteries of 12AH or greater with an oxygen recombination discharge cycle. I guess I'll try to look for mfg specs, but they arent so easy to find.

Keep in mind 10A charger / three batteries is 3.3A. I guess my question related more to ..

Can I charge these in parallel okay? I feel like it should be safe (safer than charging in series where the voltage is above spec).

Nevermind, decided if Im going to lug lead I might as well go all out.

http://www.zbattery.com/zbattery/ep33-12.html

.. these things are heavy, but they are fairly small (per AH) with friendly charge/discharge behavior (no memory problems). This is also a "cycle" model (meant for deep cycle discharging).

Also, this bad boy says "initial charge current less than 10.5A"; this means its specced perfectly for the charger I identified above (4-6 hours for 35AH is great!)

now ... to find the accompanying fork lift ...

what are you powering?  28lbs is a lot to haul around a festival if there are multiple stages.
