Integrated speaker quality
« on: February 24, 2020, 03:41:16 PM »
How do some of the other handheld recorders' speakers compare to the one in the Zoom H4n?

I'm interested in volume and overall sound quality.

I'm considering the Sony PCM-D100, Tascam D100-MkIII, Marantz PMD661, along with some of the smaller recorders such as the Sony PCM-A10.

Thanks!

They're all terrible!  They have nothing more than tiny buzzer speakers intended for checking and cueing only, if they have one at all.

Its pretty simple to plug something, anything really, into the headphone/line-out and obtain sound quality which is orders of magnitude better.

Thanks.  I've heard the H4n, and didn't think it was too bad for what it is!  I was wondering if the others were better or worse...

Zoom H2, Sony M10 and Sony A10 are all exactly as Gutbucket describes. My iPhone 5 sounds WAY better and louder, for instance, and that's not saying much.
