Title: sony ecm 979
Post by: carpa on February 02, 2009, 09:21:20 AM
Does anybody of you know this mic? It was introduced in the late 80's, it is a m-s stereo with three capsules and the possibility to move the angle from 0 degrees (mono) to 150. It is powered by a 1,5 v AA battery. It has been discontinued, but I think it has bveen in production till 5 or six years ago, ad a price of about 5/600 dollars (more or less)
I just ask you this because I've got one; I made a lot of recordings with dat and I liked the results, but I can't compare it with other stereos which I haven't tried.
Now it's broken. I took it by a Sony lab, and after waiting 5 or 6 month they told me it is not possible to restore it, because the broken parts are no more in production.
What I think is that maybe somebody apart from the Sony staff could maybe do something.
Before searching I would like to know if some of you has an opinion about this piece; maybe there is much better on the market now and it doesn't worth repairing.
thank you
