Wondering what PMD 661 owners are using to get a long battery life. Any recommendations?

Bear in mind that Marantz doesn't endorse the use of external batteries.  That said I generally use a Tekkeon MP3450 to power both my MixPre-D and PMD-661.  I've also got eneloop low self discharge aa's.

Does anybody have any experience with this item? It is rated at 13600mAh with 5V. I mostly use eneloop aa and have picked up some Enerergizer ultimate lithium also. I am going to a three day festival this summer and I am looking for something to last a long time.

Be sure to set the battery option to rechargeable in menu setup when using eneloop's.  Be advised the ultimate lithium's will last much longer but they are pricey and will die rather suddenly with little warning.  There's a 661 thread where other users reported their actual run times with lithiums, it's either in the Team Thread or one of the Recording Gear Threads.

Thanks for the info. I haven't tried the lithiums yet because I have been picking them up to record at the Northwest String Summit this summer. I have done two shows with the eneloop's and change them between sets (I have 4 sets of eneloops). Bixnet says the external one should give me about 30 hours (using 300mA as the drain). I have been getting the ultimate lithiums for about $5 a set on ebay.
I saw the post about battery run time.

I saw this external battery on Newegg's website.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1WK0HR9208

I would have to come up with a power adapter cable but 8800 mAh and 5v at 1.5A output should give me what I am looking for and at $20 each I can pick up a few. I used 300mA draw and came up with about 16 hours per unit.

Does anyone know the size of the DC power in plug? I am looking for pre-made power adapter cables.

see the first post in the following thread http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=150794.0

also several folks on ts can make a custom cable if you don't want to use a RadioShak Adapt-A-Plug setup - see this post - http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=96346.0 - though realize some of the folks listed no longer make cables

Thanks for the links. I think I found the cable I need.

I sent the company an email to verify the polarity.

Ok I got the word back from the company on the cable and it is the correct polarity so I ordered it through Amazon for $13.14 and two external batteries for $39.98. That should give me 176000 mAh at a total cost of $53.12. I will run a test once I get them to see how long they last.

Cable seems to be good quality and a good fit. I hope to get the batteries tomorrow.

I ran a test on the eyama SP-501BA http://www.e-eyama.com/. I did it with my Josephson C42mp (4.5 mA draw I think) with the led's on and the display at the dimmest setting. I got 11 hours, 36 minutes and 19 seconds before it shut down and ended the recording. Not quite as good as I hoped but at $20 right now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1WK0HR9208 I think I got a good deal.

That eyama SP-501BA looks like a cool device. Not a bad price for 11 hours of recording time. How long does it take to recharge over USB?
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

I am not real happy about the time to recharge it was about 12 hours.
