I'll be happy to A/B them if someone in the DC area can loan me a Mini-Me. I have done a non-scientific A/B (set to set) from a show last year, but it was a whole unit comparison, not A/D only. I deleted that because the bands (2 openers) sucked enough that I couldn't listen to it again.

IMO, on unit-to-unit, the MH is more detailed and the Apogee is warmer overall and "fatter" in the low end.

Can the Mini-Me take a line level signal on the XLR ins or only on via 1/4"?

only on the xlrs.  the 1/4 can't take a line level at all

It seems like I have the cables to do this as well.

Mic > ULN-2 > laptop
Mic > ULN-2 > Send > TRS-to-XLR > Apogee > AES > ULN-2 > laptop

I'd clock to the Apogee and let 'er rip. Sounds easy enough if I can deal with the cal pots.

set them to be even with the ULN beforehand.  that way you just set levels on the ULN

Sounds good to me ... anyone in the DC area have one of these Foreman Apogee grills?

actually I'm in the Richmond area so DC isn't too far to go for a comp.  The reason I was asking is that I've got the chance to pick up a 2882 + DSP for $700.  But I'd need to learn mac quick as I only know pc.  What type of show would you want to catch? Are the a/d's in the ULN the same as the 2882, I know the pre's are different.  I could offer up both the mini-me and a Lunatec 316 to use as pre/phantom and split to the Metric Halo and the Apogee.

The Mini-Me can take 1/4" line in, done it plenty of times.

at high levels?  the 1/4 is an instrument level input and will overload MUCH easier than the xlr...

Well i'm not exactly sure what your deffinition of high level is?  I've ran line in off V2/Sax with probably 25-30db & SBD's  with probably a bit less with plenty of headroom via 1/4".  Are you sure your not thinking the Hi-Z instrument inputs as they are all on the same input socket but the Hi-Z runs through a slightly different amp path.  Atleast that's what i recall reading from Gary @ Apogee.

It doesn't matter. I'm using the XLRs :)

Edit for VA Taper:
I am not doing a whole lot in the way of shows past this week, as I'm gonna be out of town for a while. If there's something that looks good at the end of Feb., let me know later.

i was under the impression that the 1/4 was ONLY hi-z.  maybe the later revision (c and on) changed this.
