Forgive my ignorance Nick but 4.5 watts a channel seems more geared as a headphone amp.
Or am I missing something here?

well I kind of figured that but that is one hell of a small room. More like a cubicle huh?
Looks neat but wasn't that Class T amp much cheaper and better watts?
No tube loving but that thing was portable and I recall a lot of ppl were raving it up.

this is an SET amp, which are usually no more than 30wpc...at most.  Many of these low power jobbies are often referred to as "flea powered".
I"m sure w/something like Hornshop horns, or any 99db rated efficiency speaker, it would sing.

Plus, 99db speakers w/4 watts is still pretty damn loud.

My Horns with a 4.5 watt Almarro SEP integrated amp goes about as loud as I would ever want it to.

I really need to shoot some pics for the listening room thread.....

Nope, The Fatman was designed by TL Audio of England, but made in China.  They've since been knocked off by some other Chinese companies.  If you look around you can probably find the same thing with a diffeent name plate for about half the price.

this is an SET amp

Technically speaking, isn't this a SEP? Single ended pentode?

Not that I know what that means or what the difference is!

I just know that my three-tubed, 4.5 watt Almarro is a single ended pentode, and this seems to be similar.

Yeah, I realized shortly after I got it that my Almarro was in fact a SEP, not a SET. and for one short second I was kinda dissapointed, having head so much about how great the SET sound is! However, that realization did not affect the sound, which I am pretty darn happy with!

Depends on how the circuit is configured.  You can strap the two grids together in an EL84 and run it as a triode.

A true triode will sound very different than a pentode run as a triode, according to the aficionados.
You can run a pentode biasing the three grids differently as a single-ended amp.
I find push-pull amps to be quieter, but I guess it's all about design.

Yup, leave it to the Chinese to pair 1930's audio amp technology with 1990's digital interface technology on the same box.
Now if they actually used a tube D/A, that would be something.
