Title: M1 a/d?
Post by: caymanreview on April 01, 2003, 08:43:32 PM
ive heard a few different things about the internal a/d in a m1

i will be running at933's > battery box > M1 and was wondering how good the internal a/d is in my m1

is there a significant difference between say, my m1 internal a/d and a un-mod sbm-1?

what kinda difference would a stock sbm-1 make, as compared to a mod sbm-1?

or could someone recomend another a/d for my application?

well if you arent stelathing id say get a nice condition ad500e or 1000 if you can find one...

Not super expensive, but not the cheapest, and do the job with flare!

IMO, the M1 ADC is a fine converter - in fact, I like it better than several of the commonly used outboard ADCs available.

I personally do not believe it's worth adding a stock SBM-1 in front.

I ran that same setup briefly.  Try it out for a while and see what you think of it.  Then, I think the next question is:

Given the budget available to me, what will have the greatest positive impact on the sound of my recordings?

IMO, the prioritized answer is:

[1] mics
[2] outboard preamp
[3] outboard ADC
