hello all,
i was just wondering ??? what everyone thought of the graham patten dmic-20 pre/ad. i have owned one for just about 4 years and have never even heard of anyone else using it on this board. just wonderin if you guys didn't think it was worthy or not. i dig the hell out of it though. ;D

Had one, used a friends ad1k at Big Cypress sold the dmic and bought an ad500.
It's okay... depends on what mics you're using with it. I've pulled out some old tapes recently that sound pretty decent.
Once I went Apogee there was no going back...

i run akg 480/61. i have pulled very nice tapes with it. its so damn compact, ya know. but i think i might make the jump to a v3 or mme. undecided as to which one. ???

I would definately skip the V3 with the 480's. IMHO, 480's and V2 sound like crap, just to transparent for me, so I would assume the same thing with the V3. The apogee on the other hand, warms up the sound so much, that it is a good compliment to the 480's. Just my opinion. On the dmic-20, while I have heard good tapes with it, I am not a fan of the graham patten stuff at all, including the dmic. I think the sound is way too digitalized, and I think this is the consesus on the unit. The minime would do ya much better!

OK here is what apogee would need to do to make me happy and openly reccomend the minime. I love the sound, thats not the issue. The issue here is that I don't think its the best design for field applications. Apogee's casing needs to be closer to that of the V2/3 . Those things are tanks. Thick, sturdy metal, nice locking features for the power cords... this is what its all about. I think when I end up with a MME again, which im sure will happen, im going to have to work on desigining a better case for it... a la ad1000...

so....this is what i hear. a few people have told me that the 480 with a v3 would just be straight up way too bassy. what would be another option? especially with limited cash. should i get an mp-2 >mme or sax >mme. or should i just save for a year or so and get v3 with a pair of b+k or schoeps? how does the v3 sound with geffels/ neumann?
thanks guys.
