i did that myself.  My first attempt...as well as all the carpentry work in that room (pictured).  My first sheetrocking, trimming..etc.
It was fun.  I enjoyed the painting part.  I had a vision..and nobody thought it would work.  "yellow?"..they'd say.
its my "port wine cheddar" room.

Yellow, it doesn't look yellow to me. FYI, out lower level is going to be venetian plaster in a yellowish goldish color, with an  area ivory chair rail and a mustard gold yellow satin above.  I have thre aunts who have yellow living rooms and it looks very nice.  My uncle as flaming as he might be is a very well known name in interior decorating. He does all the million dollar houses in Detroit (Ford's) and has said everyone must have a yellow room. I think the speakers look great on that background, but time for a bigger tv :)

With the lighting you have in that room stay away from front projectors unless you plan on big bucks to make it a very dark room.

we have a projector, its used mainly in my friends band to play dvds in the background while they play shows, but we break it out for parties on occasion, it kicks ass.

my roommate has some insanely large tv in our living room, i dont' know the size.  just lets say that we both got best buy cards and maxed them out within 3 months....not good, not good.

Skip the plasma.  They look great, initially, but fade fade fade and currently there's no good way to bring them back to life.  Stick with LCD.
