Title: DAT->?->Laptop
Post by: Tim on June 03, 2003, 01:16:01 PM
Just got a new laptop and i'd like to do my transfers on there. I'm loking for an ixpensive but bit perfect and reliable way to transfer from DAT to the laptop. Any good USB or Firewire devices? Off the top of my head I don't recall what sort of card slots it has.

FWIW - I don't want to tape with the laptop, just want to make transfers.

Emagic 2|6?

VXPocket  (pcmcia card) $200 www.digigram.com
Emagic EMI 2|6 (usb) $260

I've used both successfullly for DAT>laptop transfers.  I like the pcmcia card, but don't like the breakout cable of the VXPocket.  The Emagic has a bulky external box, but its light and is usb powered at least.

I think I saw a used VXPocket in the used gear section today.

Okay, I was thinking VX pocket but wasn't sure if that was what I needed for home use. I found one, new, on mucisicansfriend for $159. I'm buying it this afternoon I think.

Thanks for the help guys. Sorry for the stupid newbie laptop questions!
