Title: V3>P1; having trouble getting signal to lock in
Post by: rosaliemcphall on January 17, 2004, 09:41:44 PM
new to the V3, my Da-P1 won't  lock in a signal, I can get it to pass a signal by pressing the REC. button once, but once I hit the pause button the signal drops. Anyone else have issues with this bitchy deck?

My buddy is able to get a signal on his D10(real deck as he calls it) via the AES and the digi-out.

thanks for the help.

do you have the "ASNR" button in the "on"position?  the "ASNR" dithers the 24 bit signal to 16 bit.  also, are both the V3 and P1 set to equal sampling rates, i.e. 44.1 to 44.1 or 48 to 48?

if the p1 is set to digital, it will take whatever it's being fed.  are you and your buddy using the same digi cable?  put the p1 in pause/rec, then release pause.  remember to format the tape for abs.

yes, ANSR button was red(on), and the frequency was the same, both at 44.1.

the p1 is actually a great deck.  is it new?  you are new to it at least, i think you said so, up top.  take some time to learn it a little bit.  if you got the manual(or if not, there's one in the archive section) read it and go through the steps, then let us know,  is there someone who owns one who lives near you?  i know this all may seem a little elementary, but you gotta start somewhere.

I have had the deck for 3 years now, it has always been a bit tricky to get absolute time, but always got it. The fact that I couldn't get it to give me absolute time in analog mode has me concerned.

sorry, rereading, i see that the v3 is new.  i've never really tried to get abs in analog, always digi.  for me, it's all about formatting the tape, which can sometimes take a couple of tries to get pause/rec pressed at the exact timing that the p1 wants.  maybe it's time for a trip to pro digital.

i agree.  did you buy the P1 new or used?  even though you've only had it for 3 years, if it was used when you bought it, i would definitely recommend sending it into pro digital for service.  i think regular service every 4 or 5 years is recommended.

as an afterthought... did you try running any of the diagnostics on it?  check the manual.  it should tell you how to run them.

even so, if you've been using the deck for 3 years, chances are its time for, if nothing more, a cleaning.  tell them what the problem you are having is and let them take a look at the p1 just to make sure its not that, but hell after 3 years im sure it could be cleaned :-)

sounds like a deak problem for sure...formatting or not should not stop it from locking onto the signal.
