info file (.txt) questions
« on: January 31, 2004, 09:31:12 PM »
I use notepad to make my info files. I have been making them with Wordwrap UNchecked and the I hit the return button when I need to go to the next line.  I noticed when you download a .txt file made with this method that the text is all screwed up and there's little rectangles instead of going to the next line.  Should I have wordwrap checked and just write and let the program make the jump to the next line?  thanks

Good question.....I've been using it with wrapping unchecked...never new there was a difference.

Didn't know or notice any problems but I have yet to download my own show.  ;)

the little rectangles are carriage returns (enter key)
let 'er wrap.
this will let the application do the end of lines at 80, 120, or whatever number of characters it has set as default.

notepad is so much easier than vi...........

open the txt documents that have the little rectangles in internet explorer and they look normal again.

Yep, i've also been hitting the enter 100 times to clean that mess up.  I guess i have word wrap turned on as my txt files always look normal after i download them (for testing purposes of course).

I'm pretty sure if you open it in word it fixes them...

It doesn't 'fix' it, word just knows how to properly handle the *nix carriage returns.

FWIW Wordpad also can do this.
Governor Jim McGreevey was equally disturbed about the upcoming population increase. "New Jersey cannot support all of these wookies," he said. "For starters, we don't have nearly enough kindbud. At best, we can muster up a Q.P. of some beasties, but we've not a dime-bag more."
