Would this cable be appropriate for me???
« on: December 20, 2005, 05:48:53 PM »
I'm new here with some experience in recording. I'm used to running lots of adaptors between cables, but I recently found this

http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/category.cgi?category=search&item=SP-XLRM-MINI-1&type=store

and thought that it would be a great addition to my inventory. I would use it to record from a soundboard directly into my Powerbook G4.

Is this balanced? Should I get a clean signal ideallistically?

It would work, as long as you're running into the analog line in of your Powerbook. I have one (6') pretty much identical to run into my M1.

Yes this is balenced. See the 2 black rings on the 1/8"? That means there are three places for connections, tip, ring, and sleeve. But also look at the other end. Those are XLR male cables. So this cable is really made to pass signal from the 1/8" to the XLR. You would want female XLR to 1/8". You could use these with XLR turnarounds but if your dropping loot you might as well buy the thing you need.
ISO: your recordings of The Slip, Surprise Me Mr. Davis and The Barr Brothers. pm me please.

Oops....didn't even realize that was Male XLR when I posted above.

You'll definitely need Female XLR to 1/8" mini....
