your going to need to have a MOD done to use it with a JB3,  if you think you can do the MOD yourself,  (there is a thread somewhere that tell you how to do it) look for the cheepest place you can find one.

If you don't think you can do the MOD than I suggest buying it from Oade and having the MOD done.

Ditto.  The UA-5 digi-mod thread / instruction is in the Archival Info section.

I'll do the mod for you if you find it cheap enough to satisfy your tastes.  The mod is 100 bucks from oade.   It is really easy to do!

The mod is 100 bucks from oade.

In addition, you have to buy the UA-5 from the Oade Bros - they won't mod units purchased elsewhere.

Oade modded mine. I'm much better with a credit card than a solidering iron ;)

The mod isn't as easy as it looks. But for someone with experience it shouldn't be too hard.

$500 covers both the digi-mod AND the preamp mod.  Just the digi-mod runs around $350, I think.  You can always add the preamp mod later when you put together the cash.

I may have a UA-5 I'm going to sell that I modded myself if someone wants it. Give me what I paid and it's yours..... You would have to buy the battery I just bought as well to go with it. $275 for all of it.
I bought it to run while I waited for a used V3 to pop up and I'm hoping to get in on Eren's. It hasn't even seen field use.

I believe units from OADE also keep their warrenty. Otherwise you void it (if you or someone else does it).

haha, no hard feelings i hope, i was just being dumb....don't mind me.  I got 5 hours of sleep yesterday, and have been working since 11.45pm and have to work till noon tomorrow err, today.

working 40hrs a week in 4 days is rough (although all i really do at work is surf the net, which has pretty much become surfing ts.com and before that www.toothpastefordinner.com) but it all pays off when you get three day weekends every week.  Three days of drunkeness, mmmm.

yeah, I haven't used it in 10 months, but it's still the only mic I own.  I hope to change that soon.

A note from a new UA5 owner (opened the box about 4 hours ago)...

I just bought a JB3 (or NJ3 depending) and needed an Edirol.  I debated long and hard about buying one for about $250 off of Ebay or some other Audio store, because I thought the Digi-Mod would be easy to do myself, and I still think it would be.

However, I've decided that it is worth the extra $100 (the DigiMod Oade UA5 was $365 delivered) because OADE MODed UA5s KEEP THEIR WARRANTY AND YOU CAN GET PREAMP MODS (Warm or Presence) FROM OADE LATER.

You cannot get new mods on a non-Oade machine...  And if you do the mod yourself, you just killed your warranty...

Me?  It is worth the extra $100 for piece of mind...  And if the Digi-Mod is broke, Oade will fix it.  If I screw up the mod doing it myself, I have a $250 paperweight...

Good luck, buy Oade...

I had the exact same thought process as Terry.  I didn't want to drop the money on right now on a p- or w- mod, but I like the fact that I can send back at any time.  And I feel a whole lot more confident in the Oade Bros workmanship then my own.   :)

i bought one off ebay for 239$ and did the mod myself and it works well. however, it was a bitch to do. the circuit board is VERY small and its like trying to sweat a dragon compared to soldering cables, which can be done with closed eyes in comparison, imho. if you can spend the extra 100$, get it from oade. my $.02
