External/USB 24 bit soundcards?
« on: January 08, 2006, 10:25:37 AM »
I might be getting a decent but large laptop handed down from my sis and was thinking of using it as my music/dvd player... it already has Svideo for the TV, just no way of putting in a bit perfect soundcard, i think...

soooo, anyone know of an external sound box that has USB in and digi out?

thanks

Do you have to have digiout?

The 902's analog out into a decent amp should be a really nice system.

From talking with someone at Grace Design, I learned that the 902 can only handle 44.1/48 kHz via the USB. So if you're trying to play back 24/96, the 902 can't be the only converter in your chain. I'd told them I'd buy when when they had USB2/FW to handle that functionality. However, getting a transit or something of that sort plus a DAC-1 is cheaper and of similar quality (more sonic preference than anything else at that level).
Out of the game … for now?
