both seem to do what I'm looking for but the ART is considerably cheaper. Just trying to figure out how two products so similar could have such a price difference.
the phantom will only be needed for a couple of months so I'm not really in need of the most desirable box out there but just a get er done type thing.

thanks Chuck, I went ahead and grabbed it.
I guess it's just different manufacturers can swing different deals. I wish I knew more bout 'lectronics and stuff, I'd have bought a taperbuilt phantom instead. Maybe later...

Let us know how it works for you. I have wondered how good the ART boxes are.

I've been using one for years. I got no complaints. And I own a Rolls single channel one that isn't battery powered, and I can't hear any difference between the two. Of course I never went out of my way to check... perhaps I'll do a test this weekend. I've seen it said that 'power is power', it's either powering the mic, or it's not.

:coolguy: gracias taper420
C4s>ArtII>D7
wondered if any "noise" issues were noticed while using either the Art or Rolls, guess not from your answer and now I feel much more confident that I made the right choice by getting the Art from a TS'er
now if only someone would show up here with a 660 for about 300 bucks I could be the n00b posterboy for the TS Yard sale section >:D

I had the rolls and it crapped out on me rather quickly.

I have two ART II boxes...I have never had an issue with them in the year I've used them. I only have two, because I fried the 7805A voltage regulator ( my fault - plug tip), and bought another. I finally replaced the diodes, caps, and vr, and it now works like a champ.

it seemed to do exactly what it was supposed to :)

Glad it worked out for you.
