Title: adjustable right angle xlr adaptors

You're looking for any of the following Neutrik part numbers:

NC3FRX
NC3FRX-B
NC3DRX-BAG
NC3MRX
NC3MRX-B
NC3MRX-BAG

Many people do DIY right-angle XLRs. I have done some with drilling through the side of a connector and using a 3D-printed threaded end cap. Others use epoxy or other materials.

EDIT: I didn't realize OP was looking for an inline solution, rather than an entire new termination as these are.

^Those are all right angle cable terminations, soldered onto the cable end.

What seethreepo is asking about is a right angle adapter to which a existing XLR cable can be attached, female on one side, male on the other.

I have a couple of the TRS equivalent, bought at Radio Shack years ago, which I used into channels 5&6 of the DR-680 since those inputs were TRS only.  Worked great.

Likely to have better luck using a short interconnect with a male right angle XLR on one end and a straight female XLR on the other. Cable will bend in any direction, reduce stress on the chassis input jack, and the assembled chain can be much more compact.

I would avoid the Cable Techniques right-angle connectors. There have been reports of long-term reliability issues.

Mine have been working just fine, where are you reading about reliability issues?

Someone posted about it either here or on GS Remote. But since I can't find the post to back up my comment, I'll delete. Glad they are working well for you.

I am too considering my soldering ability is pretty much garbage.  :yack:

I too am considering buying some Cable Techniques short right angle XLR connectors (A-shell, large cap) and having them installed on my cables, to replace the straight neutrik's.  Voltronic, your suggestion that these (and the Switchcraft short right angle xlr's) had a history of failure was maybe from this TS thread?:
https://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=200731.msg2387262#msg2387262

Anyway, I did some searching for actual reviews on this product on B&H, Sweetwater and Adorama websites, but found a dearth of reviews, and none reporting failure.

A similar item to Cable Matters 500112 is available as a 2 pack on Amazon. They look fine, have great ratings, and are adjustable and light.

Why not order a pair and torture test them at home before using in the field? Returnable for a month...

I have one I use in the back of my audio-interface.  It's wonky and feels like it could fail.  That is why I use on my very stationary audio-interface.  I would never trust it in the field.  Just get Ted to make you custom interconnects, way higher quality.

I did have Ted make me custom interconnects, and they were perfect which is to say that he confirmed the reputation that he's rightly cultivated here.

I had to find another solution for customizing my existing mic cables, though.  (I couldn't justify the expense of having Ted make me 2 new pairs of 15' cables.)  I wound up ordering these Cable Techniques connectors:
https://www.cabletechniques.com/product-page/low-profile-right-angle-xlr-3-pin-male-a-shell

and sending them, along with my mic cables, to Pro Audio L.A. (https://www.proaudiola.com/)

My existing cables were a tad too thick for the cap to properly fit, the work-around was to strip off a bit of jacket and replace it with heat-shrink as necessary.  Turned out perfect, based on how they look (I took the cap off of one just to peek under the hood, and they got the critical zip-tie strain relief piece done just right) and my first use of them since getting them back.  I'd be remiss in not shouting them out here, as their customer service was as exemplary as their work.  Aja was the tech that did my work, and she took the time to call and text/send pics as necessary to discuss the job and make sure that they got it just exactly right.  Highly recommend them for any work that Ted doesn't do--especially considering that they charged me just $60 for labor and return shipping.

Very cool! Did you get the large or small caps for the cable matters connectors?

Pictures? Would love to see the zip tie strain relief...

I ordered a bunch of the Cable Techniques end caps in red and black (I got the 6mm to use with Mogami cable). I couldn't justify the $10 each per connector so I just ordered the caps at $1 each then ordered male Neutrik XLR connectors without the strain relief boot from Markertek at ~2 each and made my own connectors using hot glue and gorilla glue to seal them up.

They aren't adjustable - once you glue them in place they are obviously set that way - but in all the years I've been using cables I have never once adjusted the angle of an output connector.

Was thinking about making up some pairs and putting them in the YS. I'll probably have some cable left over from the spool I bought a while back to make up a bunch of cables for the home studio.

I ended up with a pair of adjustable connections and also have some short interconnects so I'm all set but thanks.  I was hoping it was a matter of simply turning the xlr  but involves a small set screw  to adjust.  not a big deal.  Thanks Justin  & all who replied.

I got the large caps.  Strain relief is quite well illustrated in the installation instructions here:  https://www.cabletechniques.com/loprodiy

Nice.  As for adjusting in the future:  duly noted.  It it is possible that I never adjust the exit angles on these, but at least i have the option if/when that need arises.

I pretty much have only needed to adjust right angle connector orientation when switching between recorders, or different preamps.. maybe a different bag arrangement.  If not switching things up often a fixed orientation is perfectly fine.  Just make a new cable if needed when something changes in a few years.

The angle can be adjusted by loosening the tiny .9mm hex screw and rotating to your desired angle.

Have you tried this cable?  They have an 8" version that is more appealing to me.  For the price, can get Ted to make what I need, but they are fixed angles.
