New ADK SC-Ts w/ card & omni caps?
« on: February 20, 2004, 01:43:10 PM »
Been looking around and these look pretty interesting:

Card and omni caps & pad/roll-off.  Price looks decent too ($199 @ sound pros).

Anybody used these yet?

I knew they were coming out with a new version of the ADKs, but didn't think it would be a card/omni combo.  Figured card/hypers would be the choice.
specs look good!

I looked into this.
Yes, the omni caps are new, but it's still the same pre-amp body.
I say wait until ADK comes out with a totally redesigned SD.

Have they had problems with the SD pre-amp bodies?

No, but Gerard, one of the designers/engineers has posted on here about his unhappiness with that microphone. They are working on a new design for a small diaphragm mic.

Hi gang!

Yes, please go to www.adkmic.com/forum for Qs. like this.

OK, we're basically keeping an entry level SD that will have cardioid and omni caps but we simply can't make it very quiet at this low price, which is the main complaint I've had. They sound OK, really good when you look at the price, and make very decent OH mics. They're a bit noisy for distant mic'ing of soft sources. They do sound a bit bright and light, or clear and clean depending on how you look at it.

We'll have a better SD at some point, but folks are expecting very low prices these days.

We'll definitely have a quite nice SD in the next years, but it won't be cheap. Might be tube too.

I've recently tried some competitors SDs, some sharing the capsule we use in our SDs, and I can't say that they were better...

Of course, when you put those "affordable" SDs next to a nice KM84, Tele M600 or even a good C451... they're all a bit... weak!

Sounds like these might be a good candidate for a warm-mod UA-5 rather than my p-mod...

+t and thanks for the great info!
