Title: Zoom H6 vs H5 preamps
Post by: TAlderson on April 15, 2015, 06:17:33 PM
I'm wondering whether the H5 is just the H6 minus two inputs, or whether the hardware is actually different as well. I'm wondering in particular about the preamps, as I haven't been able to confirm from the sources I've seen that they are in fact the same. I assume they are, but also know what happens when you assume...

Also, as a side question, has anyone used a Zoom H4/H5/H6 as an audio interface for a Mac? I'm not looking to purchase it just for that, but it would be a nice side benefit.

Pretty much the same recorder as the H6, but a scaled down version with less bells and whistles. The upgrade to the pre's came after the H4, although I am not sure if there is any difference between the H6 and H5?  I would doubt that there is a difference.  I always run my pre/mix prior to the Zoom.

The H6, in my opinion and for the minimal extra monies, gets you much more bang for your $.   $399 H6 vs. $269 H5

BTW, the only noted Mac info was: iPad Operation Supported in stereo mode only for the H5
