Title: Littlebox>m10
Post by: dml78 on July 31, 2010, 10:08:04 AM
Will this setup improve the overall sound quality of my recordings? Or will I not hear much differance running straight into the m10. Thanks

What mics? Also what kind of music do you record?

Dont have the mics yet but I think I will go with the busman bcs1 kit. I record jam bands and bluegrass and normally have access to board feeds but now I want to get into aud taping. Anyone run bcs1>littlebox>m10 and have some samples?

If your going to buy the Busmans (good choice BTW) you MUST have a preamp, or some sort of phantom power. The M10 can not power the Busmans. And if your going to record bluegrass the preamp is the way to go for sure.

Busman > Littlebox > M10 is a sick rig IMO. Probably one of the best options for the money, and can hold it's own against just about anything.

I agree that this will be a sick rig for under a grand. I have heard littlebox>m10 but have yet to find a bcs1>littlebox>m10 source. I think this rig will sound great.

If I didn't already have a FR2-LE with a Busman t-mod, I'd have the LB to run BSC1's > LB > M10. Good choice.

I'm taping Gov't Mule and Jackie Greene tomorrow.  Nakamichi CM-1000 > Littlebox > M10.  I'll PM you when they're upped in the KD.

^ Looking forward to the upload, Dan.  Since the 1k's operate on a range of phantom power, I was thinking of going super small with the tinybox>m10 and using a breakout cable.  I still can't believe how "tiny", economical, and affordable rigs have become over the past few years.

Well this is in part to people like chris church, doug odae, and Jon O'Neil (littlebox maker) who started making and designing pre-amps on their own to later sell to people like you. they probably have done fairly well selling them but the clear winner from their success are tapers.

In the same price category isn't the Peluso mics a valid alternative for the LB>M10?

once my littlebox shows up I will be running Busman modded Avantone CK1>littlebox>D50.  After listing to samples I don't think I will change anything up for quite some time.

?
The Peluso mics are an alternative to the Busman mics, not the LB>M10. You'd still need a recorder and something to provide the mics phantom power.

If you meant an alternative to the Busmans, I don't know how they compare, but they are not anywhere near the same price range. Would be way more than double the cost to get the Pelusos and all the Peluso caps (and Pelsuso doesn't seem to have the wide cardioids available).

OOOPS,

I have got my question mixed up. I meant to compare the mics!

fmaderjr,

thanks for the exaustive reply on the Peluso's.

The Peluso wide cards (subs) for the cemc6 are available. You usually have to wait a week for them to be special made by Peluso. A couple of dealers have them in stock.

Sounds great. I really dig the sound of the AKG mics. Wish I could afford a pair. Got to start somewhere and I think the busmans will do for now.

i'll tell you what
i love my akgs but the bm give them a solid run for the money
if i needed money the bm might win out for the difference in cost to difference in sound

For the record.

I recorded Beyer MC930 > Tinybox > M10 with no issues the other night. Recording sounds equally good as my normal rig: MC930 > FR2LE.

That is nice to hear about the Tinybox...

Talking about the Tinybox (just got mine), how often do you recharge its battery?

You wait it goes off completely by itself before recharging (hoping longer duration over time, but risking to be out of battery for a show) or

You recharge it anytime before a show?

Best, from Italy,
Mauro
