Title: Portico 5012 outputs non-inverting?
Post by: trajhip2000 on August 07, 2007, 06:21:26 PM
Anybody know? I couldn't find it in the manual or in any of the reviews, but I probably just missed it. Thanks.

there is a phase invert switch for each channel on the front panel so you should be able to set it however you want

oh, is that what those buttons are for?  ;D

I've been doing some 4-mic mixes with 744T recordings (sep guitar and bass tracks along with a stereo on-stage pair) and not always getting the results I expect when I add in the instrument channels, so I'm trying to figure out whether that might be a phase issue - therefore, it would be nice to know whether the 5012 outputs are inverting phase or not. Seems to me I read somewhere that transformer-based outputs typically do invert phase, but I might be thinking of tube output stages instead. I have a mail in to Neve but haven't gotten a response yet.

Post when you know.  I've always assumed non-inverting unless the phase switch is engaged.

you are correct, this is from Neve's director of sales: "The outputs only invert phase if the phase reverse switch is depressed and illuminated."
