Title: Best Battery to Run V2
Post by: zman on August 14, 2013, 06:08:02 PM
A friend dusted off his v2 and had Eco charge batteries that are now junk. My old Walmart batteries were just rebuilt. What is the Best battery for a v2 these days?

the walmarts are great -- the ecocharge is nothing more than a fancy plastic cap on top of a VERY standard Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery -- you can carefully pry off the plastic cap, unplug the connectors (they slide right off) and replace the SLA with a new unit from batteriesplus, etc.  that will charge right up using the ecocharge's charger.

the advantage of an SLA would be that the V2's low battery warning will work (as the sla's 6 volts) -- you'd need to rely on the walmart's meter as it's 9volts and won't interface with the v2's low battery warning.

This would work!!  I have 2 and have been very happy with them.

I'll second the Naztech recommendation, Z.  I use it with my V3 all the time, and it works great.

Thanks for all input. How many hours do you guys get from the Naztech?

I have run mine with a preamp for 5 hours and it only went down 1 bar on the battery scale.  That was at the 9v setting.

I had a 10 year hiatus from taping and had a dead Eco charge for my V2.  So glad I went with a Naztech knock off and a cable from TAKables.  I use about 50% of the battery running at the same time a V2 (9V) and DR-100 (5V) for about 3 hours or so.  Obviously, a lot more universal and can easily run phones (audio player), speakers, etc all day on brew days and such too.

I've never run mine down, and a standard night with 3 bands would be what - 3 hours, tops?  But never got lower than 2 bars and even that time I may not have fully charged it properly beforehand.  Usually only down 1 bar.  I assume if you run 24/96 it will run down faster, though.

On your recorder? Certainly not for the V2 power source.

When I first picked up the Naztechs a few months ago I tested it with the R-44, phantom power on 2 channels and it powered the 44/mics for right at 18 hours!

With the V3 in the field I use 2 bars (about 1/2 capacity) on the battery for 3 1/2 to 4 hours of use at 9V.

They're somewhat thin and lightweight which makes them nice and like the others said they can be used for multiple things.
