Please help EQ this stack tape (sample inside)
« on: March 31, 2012, 01:42:17 PM »
Hey guys I made a stack tape last night and I am wondering if any of you may be willing and able to tweak it to life in post with some fancy EQ work.  I'd love it if you could please download the .flac file I've posted and play with it a bit, then post a screenshot of your EQ settings so that I may apply them to the whole show.  I feel like there's some great raw data in this audio, but it's sounding pretty lifeless as it is and I'm hoping to resurrect some awesomeness out of it!

The band is "First Aid Kit" and the venue is The Black Cat in Washington DC

Thanks very much!

I've also now posted a video on YouTube which features video taken from my phone synced up with the same audio I'm asking for help with (albeit a different song on YouTube).

Please help!

Hey, I got it to sound a lot better but I can't figure out how to post a screenshot of the comp plugin I used.  If you want, PM me your email and I'll send the file back to you to hear.

Unless you've lost interest.  But I spent a good half hour or more on this.

I just listened to the YouTube clip on Westone 3s through a computer, so YMMV, but it has that 'closed' sound that stack tapes have.

I find it helps to boost the highs (8kHz-12kHz), maybe play with the 1-3kHz vocal range, and scoop some of the stuff in the 150-350 range a few dB.

I'd also, if you have one, play with some "harmonic exciters" and possible one of the plugins that increases the width of the image.  Ozone has some that might help.
