Title: anyone make there own guitar cables?
Post by: Chanher on June 19, 2004, 06:01:24 PM
I was wondering if making your own guitar cables (by buying parts through markertek or something) is worth it.  I don't know how to soder, I want to learn though, so I can make a bunch of custom cables.

I just made my first set of mic cables last week.  it was my first time to solder as well.  it was REALLY easy.

I say GO FOR IT!!!

I made a guitar cable.  Canare starquar and neutrik plugs.  It's not difficult.  I made a 17ft run for about 1/2 the price and better quality than what I could order for the money.

Before you do that, go to radioshack and get a spool of wire and maybe some cheesey cheap connectors and some solderwick.  Practice soldering and desoldering until you get it right.  It shouldn't take you long to learn.

all you need is the 1/4 inch mono phone plugs (2 or them) and the desired length of cable.  it is very easy.  diagrams of where the wires are soldered to are in the archive information forum.
