Title: Oade modded F410
Post by: utahtaper on May 11, 2004, 12:17:34 AM
I was picking Doug's brain in the forum and he's working on a preamp modded 410. He's hooking me up with a demo unit and wants me to spread the tunes to you guys so you can hear it.  EDIT **I stepped down, Dustin's the man.**

I'm sure Doug wants to see if there would be any interest among the tapers to use such a unit. I believe there are going to be two flavors just like the UA5, a warm and a presence mod to the pres.
I am loving this firewire!
Using a firewire card with a JB3 is just sick.(Thanks Nick) When a transfer takes under a min for 3hrs real time on a DAT. I've left DAT and I'm not looking back.

Yeah I took part in that little discussion.  I'm gonna email Doug to see if I could get my unit modified.

I'm going to be willing to bet that he may treat the 410's like the UA5's. Meaning they may have to be purchased from them in order for them to be modded.

sounds interesting! i posted asking if we would ahve to buy the 410s from him to be able to get them modded, i bet we would

To tell you the truth I didn't ask about a digimod. Can you power the unit of external power? I thought it got it's power through the firewire?

i power mine with external power, as i only have a stock 4pin firewire port

it can only be firewire bus powered via a 6pin firewire port

i would think that with all the different uses besides just using it as a 2track mic pre like i mostly do, that a standalone version wouldnt be feasible

Biggest issue I see is powering the 410 since it's AC correct?

no it is dc powered

im using a 12v 4000mah pack from batteryspace.com, it is a "universal power pack" for laptops and even comes with the correct power plug, that is even right angle

I don't think there'll be a digi mod, only because there'd be no way to set the bit/sample rate unless you load it up on the computer.

I am also using the universal laptop battery to power my 410, without any problems.
Thanks to Jef-O for the tip, and for selling me his 410.
Below is the link to the exact battery you need, and it's only 29.99 :)
Peace,
Spin

confused does this mean that the 410 is not compatible with the jb3?
I thought its optical outs wer active with an analof input unlike the U-a5

no, what he means by "no digimod" is that the F410 can't be run standalone. it needs to be connected to a computer as thats the only way to change bit-rate, sampling, etc...

arent the optical outs active on a ua5 no matter what signal you feed it? the signal HAS to go through the ua5 a/d before anything, even for analog output becuase it goes through the a/d and back through a d/a to get analog output

Nice to see they made it DC powered!   Anyone know what the "stock" samplerate setting is?  Can it be set before going in the field to run with the JB3 or a DAT?  Nice little box.........it would be SO nice if we tapers could design a box!

i would say there is no set sample rate, it feeds whatever your program is set at, an d evidently communicates with the pc on this issue

i would say it wouldnt be possible to use it with anything but a lappy, because i use my pc to also select which inputs i was to record, wether it be a multi setting or just 1+2 (the mic inputs) or just a/pdif input

im going to be multitracking hopefully in 2 weeks the band i archive for

just need to find another a/d to borrow, as i believe the extra analog inputs arent active when you use mics
