prefer less.  looking at a couple Yamaha's and this is the only thing stopping me

We understand the information that you are looking for.  However, current Yamaha A/V receivers do not have this feature.

Possible work around:

You can run a second video cable - from the video source that you wish to view directly to the TV.  And then when you want to listen to a different audio source switch to the secondary video input to the TV and then switch the input on the receiver to CD or the radio.

the reason being while playing the wii for instance I'd like to listen to music sometimes and not the wii ;)  also who doesn't like the ability to zone out to the discovery channel while listening to music?  ;D  as far as the wii goes I could leave it how I have it now (wii directly to tv) but the main reason I want a new receiver is to cut the connections to the tv to one cable.

so are all brands like this now?  the receiver I have now doesn't have hdmi so I have all kinds of different cables for audio (coax or optical from devices to receiver), video (hdmi from box,dvd to tv) etc.  I really like the idea of everything running through the receiver but don't like this shortcoming.

I know I could get a hdmi and or component switch but again that would require more cables to the tv.

two questions:

Do you need surround sound?
Do you need an am/fm tuner?

If the answers are no, you do much better (price & sound) with an integrated amp or separates.

need 7.1, don't care about fm and need 2 zones for the speakers on the deck.  the one Jim posted has all that just trying to make sure I can assign multiple audio to outputs.  ie so I can listen to music while watching tv.

I was quite impressed with the Cambridge Azur AV receiver I had.  Plenty of power, great I/O options.  HDMI upsampling / switching.

While watching TV with my Yamaha AV amp (8yr old unit) you can listen to the radio and watch TV...great for sports

There are three audio inputs for my amp....Coax/Optical/Analog RCA...

It may be possible to hook up both the CD/DVD player digital output and RCA Analog output but assign the Analog output to the TV...then you would go to SETUP and switch sound input to the Analog input when you want CD music with TV Video?

it was less than $600 when I got it and it's over $800 now.
