Topic: ADK vs. Studio Projects

I wondering which mics would be better for concert taping ORTF, the ADK sc-2 or the Studio Projects c-4. If anyone has any insight I would appreciate some help.  Thanks Ldseeya

I've not heard many tapes with the ADK SC2s, but the SP C4s are quite possibly the best value for price there is in our hobbie.

I can't count how many times I've been listening to a show, went back to check the source info, and saw my enjoyment was from sub $300 mics. You can't go wrong for the $$$.

One question though, why are you specifically asking about ORTF?

The C4s come with Card and Omni capsules.  The SC-2 is only Card.  The ADK SC-T has different capsules like the C4:  http://www.adkmic.com/specs/SC.html

Look at Team ADK, I can't remember who, but someone runs SC-Ts and says they are nice...  I thought about getting those, but like the Hyper option that my ADK TLs give me.  I also think the C4s are getting Hyper caps soon, if they haven't already.

I think your best option is to find as many C4 and SC recordings on Archive and listen to them.  The C4s are definitely a great value and work very well.  You wouldn't be doing yourself wrong by getting those.

I'm just biased towards ADK.  Go Team ADK!!!

JunkBondKing runs the SC-Ts. When I talked to him about them he only had favorable things to say about them. Apparrently they are very similar in design to TL's.

i feel wierd even saying this but, go with the cheaper c-4's

IMHO there build quality is less but they sound better, and as far as the hypers go on the c-4's it's been 'in the works' for three years now so don't make you descision on the hopes of the c-4 hyper caps cause it may never happen.

i don't know much about the adk's, but i love my c4's for my purpose's. here are some of my recordings.

i used to run c4's and taped with jeff ^^^ a lot in the beginning. I personally like the SC-t's better than the c4s. its been a while since i've listened to the 2 side by side to comment on exactly what was better, but I think the ADKs had a much cleaner sound to them.

ADK has awesome customer support too.  Once I emailed them about buying a new shockmount and one of mine has a stripped screw.  All they asked of me was what kind and where I lived.  Soon, a free shockmount appeared in the mail along with several elastics...
