best price for Microtrack and large CF card?
« on: December 13, 2005, 09:30:28 AM »
So far, I have a quote of $350US for the recorder from Oade, I believe including ground shipping.  They don't sell CF cards though. Someone I usually go through wants $350US for a 4GB card. Can I do better? Is there anything larger than 4GB available?
Anyway, just looking to save some $$$ on the card.
thanks, and I'm glad I found this place. I'm just making the switch from an old Sharp MT831, and you guys have really made the researching a lot easier!

4GB cards have been available on and off for ~$200.  I have the Kingston Elite Pro 45x CF card.  I vaguely recall some TSers experiencing trouble with 40x or slower cards.  Check the Retail Space forum to see if there's a current deal running about which TSers have posted.  And if you find a deal in your quest - let us know!

Best price on the MT seems to be through Guitar Center. http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=51854.0
Unless there is an online retailer who's selling them for under 320$ including shipping.

Grrr, I'm wishing I was in the US right about now. I'm in Canada, and have now gone to about five sites Nextag.com found, showing Kingston 4GB cards for $240 or less. None ship to Canada, and one that looked like it did, wouldn't accept non-US creditcards! *frustrated* OH well, I'll keep looking.  and, we don't have GC in Canada; this will be an entirely online purchase. Thanks for the replies though guys.dB-

Word is there may be an Oade Mod upcoming with the MT... as usual, I would imagine that you would have to have purchased the MT from Oade Bros to be able to have the mod done...

I think you do not need to worry about MOD if you plan to do all your recording via SPIF in. If you have an external preamp/ A/D (like V3) you're set. Also did Doug say what exactly he plans to do with the MT? Personally, I'm more interested in upgrading the firmware than upgrading the mic/line-in.

as a general note of info, there are some online sites that have the Kingston Elite Pro 45x 4GB CF cards for $215 shipped, anytime.  ;D no rebates to fool with or anything.

There's a guy on eBay who is/was selling Hitachi 4GB Microdrives for $74 and 6GB for $99. Apparently they are Apple surplus, originally destined for the iPod minis. I picked up a 6GB, and got my MicroTrack at Guitar Center for $299 + tax.
