ACM 660 vs. ACM 671 mod question
« on: November 28, 2006, 01:18:44 AM »
Does anyone know off the top of their head whether the ACM mods for these two recorders are supposed to sound alike?  I have a much greater preference for one over the other and I was curious whether it was all in my head.

What is your preference for curiosity's sake?

I thought I remember that they are different, although I can't add any info beyond that. I would think if they are different they would sound different. Not knowing a lot about what makes the mod happen. Would they have to be different in the fact that one is 16 bit and the other is 16/24 bit?
A six pack a day, that's all we ask.

I do know that Doug was waiting for different DC blocking capacitors to use in the ACM671. It took months for them to arrive, just at the time I wanted to get mine modded. I would imagine the circuitry is different in each unit. I got my 671 ACM modded based on hearing the Ratdog show Nick recorded with the ACM660.

yes...which was done w/the "old" caps vs. the silk caps that he is using for the 671.
bottom line, different parts for each unit.

I like the ACM660 sound better.  but, i'm not sure if he's using the same parts in these now that he was last year when he started to mod them.
