So Sunday night i am taping Matisyahu at toads place in new haven't. My gains are all the way down and recorder is at 35. Levels came out fine. I run mc930s and was wondering should I have used the 15db pad and upped the gain on my bigbox or just did what i did.

imo you are better off not using the pads unless you need to
so i would have done it like you did

At last night's Matisyahu show I couldn't put the levels on the bigbox past 12 o'clock without the red light coming on...no worries though, I stayed in the green-yellow and the recording sounds awesome. I suspect the crazy-ass low-end had something to do with it...but the output xfos loved it. >:D
What were you peaking at on the r-09hr? I was running between -12 and -6 with the r-09hr at 40. HOWEVER, the distance from the stage at Toad's Place to the board is about half that as the same distances as Club Soda here in Montreal. You were prolly getting hammered by SPL's in there!
If it sounds good, then you did it right.

So then it sounds like I did the right thing. No gain. And levels were fine. Accurate ?
