Since it was requested I ran 4 channels of phantom power on my 680.
Gear used:
BSC-1 (2)
Samson CL2 (2)
Specs:
4 phantom powered channels
24/48
Backlight on
9v battery setting
Total run time 10hrs 48 minutes
This was shocking, that's great if you aren't using any other preamps.
Happy to share any details I may have left out and if there is another test that someone would like done, ill try to get it done.

I'm looking for a battery solution for my recorders, I know that R-44 have a voltage selector but I don't find where to change in dr-680 to work with 9V, I missing something?

Dr680s are all 12v inputs but I just use it on 9v because many people have done it and it runs perfectly fine and it adds a little more battery life

there is no voltage selector on the unit. just make sure the battery you are using is set at 12V or 9V (lowest)

Disagree, at least legally, if not functionally. I'm pretty sure operating at 9V would be inconsistent with warranty terms.
Are you 100% on this or are you just basing this on anecdotal evidence of the community? Tascam specs say 12V only. You'd think they'd have included 9V in their specs if it was OK, but if nobody has had any problems, then I suppose the anecdotal evidence is solid for functionality. That said, I agree with you that I haven't read of anyone saying they had problems that were specifically related to running from 9V.
Even so, when I had mine (sold it a month or so ago), I decided to go 12V at least during the warranty period, since I'm pretty sure if anything happened and they somehow knew it was being operated at 9V, that would be a warranty violation.

And running at a lower voltage[9v] probably makes the voltage regulator run hotter, correct?

So, no one has had issues with the DR-680 and the Naztech batteries at 12V, right?
I got scared off of 12V when I read the horror stories involving Tekkeons (presumably only with the auto voltage select option).
So I've been using my 680 with a Naztech @ 9V. (ran it for a long time on DVD batts)
If there have been no problems with Naztech's @12, then I think I'll "through the switch" or (push the button) ;)
(might even buy more Naztech's for the Apogee Mini's (which I've run off of 9V and 7.4V DVD batts).

I power my DR-680s with PB1500s at 12v.
I assume that folks who choose to power this unit with 9v do so either because that is the battery they own and/or they wish to get a little more battery life(?)
I often power up to 6 mics at 48v phantom, and it seems prudent to supply the unit with 12v to me.
I use one of these batteries to power the 680 @ 12v and another for a UA5 (@9v)when I need the extra 2 channels. When I am really adventurous I run two linked 680s off these batteries @12v.
[Always with 8 fully charged AAs in each unit, and 8 more in my bag. Just in case.]
