I am looking for a tripod that can handle the upfront type weight the 70-200 IS lens gives. My regular tripod does not seem to screw in to tight onto the lens clamp--it seems to slide a little. And with all that money out front i dont want to lose her. Now my monopod works just fine, but again looking for a " average size tripod-- possible need to use a good tripod head or tripod ball, to use with the canon 40D
thanks
please advise

i use the manfrotto 190XDB
Plenty sturdy. Of course the head is more important than the tripod. I use a manfrotto 484RC2 for the head. Plenty sturdy for my 5d w/70-200L. I'm sure could handle even more weight.
The specs under manufacturer info should tell you how much weight the stand and heads are rated for.

there are so many different heads that it was hard to get a reference of what people were or are using,
thanks so much

I have two heads. The one I listed and then dynatrex (I believe). I use the manfrotto 90% of the time.
