This is what Dr Didg says about this situation

started to transfer a classic gig from 1994, and discovered that my DAT
machine was crimping the tape, destroying significant stretches of the

get it serviced. I do have one gig already in the computer already from
1995. The only problem is, it was recorded at 48 kHz, and I have tried
converting the sample rate and have not been pleased with the results. I

what process has been used thus far that yielded unsatisfactory results?

there are many quality ways to accomplish this task.  
it would help to know what Hardware/ Software is at your disposal.   :)

For those that don't know, there's Dr. Didg's website.  He plays the didgeridoo.

Anyway, I'd also like to know he resampled whatever show he was playing with.  Resampling in software such as soundforge, CEP, or wavelab has always provided satisfying results for me...

Yeah I will found out what type of resampling software he is using and I will get back to you all.   Thanks so much everybody, If anyone wants to hear the last played Dr Didg show contact me for a bnp.

Soundforge 4.5, set to high interpolation accuracy

try Cool Edit Pro or Wavelab.  

SF 4.5 is pretty good at resampling.  honestly, if this d00d is not happy with the results in SF, he may not be happy with anything.  

tell him to record at 44.1 in the future and resampling will become a moot point.  perhaps it's the recording itself he's not happy with.

I would agree.  Although it seems that the general consensus is that wavelab and cool edit pro are better for resampling, sound forge is fine too!  I can't really hear a difference.  If he can hear a huge difference, I would like to a...know what he is listening to his tapes on, and b...where do I get one :)

Dr.Didg rules............nothing like some crazy spacey looping digeroos, if you get the chance to see him, I saw him late night at the Big WU Family Reunion last year, quite the late night party!
