Got one of the big 3000mAh BatterySpace batteries. Should be sitting on my setps when I get home. Getting on a flight to Boise at 10am. Do these have to be cycled before I use it the first time or is it ok to not to and just do it when I get back?

hahaha when i read this all i could think of was some jackass on a bike with his battery hooked up to his gears :-)

Go ahead and use it, just don't expect quite as full capacity out of it as you would after cycling a couple times (regardless if the documentation says otherwise). You'll be fine.

That's what I was thinking. Not going to a festival so a full charge is not needed. Question about the charger though. Do you know if it has an option to discharge before it charges? My charger for my AA's does. Really seems to help.

Dunno. Which charger do you have? Checked the specs/documentation?
-
I have the 3000mA cells you are talking about and the charger that came with mine does not allow the discharge option. I also have the AA charger, which does. The cells might need charging when you get them, but I don't recall. I ran one down completely only to test run time, which happened to be it's first use, or as you called cycling. I taped 2 shows with them since purchased, and have not run them back down completely yet. I knew how many hours they were used for, and charged them for that long using a lamp timer. Make sure you label the cells if you bought 2. I didn't my first time out, and couldn't tell which one I used when I got home - you all know the rush some security give us.
-
No manual came with it. For those of you with one, how long do you charge it for?

do the math. I believe the charger is rated at 200mA/hr. The cells are 3000mA. 15hrs??
I charged mine for too long the first time, it was probably close to 18-22hrs. I heard that will hurt them, but not sure myself. When I ran it down to nothing, it took 8-9hrs I believe, so I charged it that long using a lamp timer.

Check the rating on the label of your charger. Went down to my "studio" and checked mine. It is 200mA.
-
If it's totally drained, charge it to 1.5x the capacity.
3000mAh / 200ma = 15 hours
15*1.5 = 22 hours
If it's not fully drained, charge it til its warm. At a charging current of 200 mA you won't do any damage with an overcharge - it will just release the energy as heat.
-
Man, you shoulda just borrowed my 3000 the other day.
