Ok, so i just picked up a V-2 and need battery supply. what are my best options?

I use a Kindkables.com dual power cable with two Walmart lithiums. This gives me a huge amount of hours, and if one battery dies on me, I stil have a backup.

are u talking about the 9v lion DVD batteries? Will this one work with the v-2..UNIVERSAL DVD Battery, 9V 23Wh LI-ION by Lenmar?
thx

if you buy a 9V battery, you leave it on 6V and the extra voltage is released as heat.

ok, very cool, now is the machine set at 6 or 12 when i get, its used, so how do i check? if the 9v powers it, its set 6 if it doesn't it's 12v?

Correct: if the V2 is set to 12v, the 9v battery will not power it (see the manual and/or Grace website for how to change it from 12v to 6v). If the V2 is set to 6v, the 9v will power it fine -- but the V2's low battery indicator and auto-shutoff features won't work any longer, unless you recalibrate them. I believe Grace has the calibration instructions on their website. At least for the V3, anyway, not positive about the V2. When I ran V3, I never bothered recalibrating because the 9v battery had its own battery meter.
Brain cramp. See Ed's correction here: http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,126547.msg1680268.html#msg1680268
Edit to add: Sorry for bouncing the thread around a couple times. I flubbed the first move.

This is my V3, but the cable and battery are the same with a different connector on the V2.

Bennett,
Is the power cable coming from the V3 connected to both batteries?
-
i was going to ask the same thing

running two 9V batteries allows you to get something like 8.5 hours of run time.

how long if you use one battery at a time?

When I ran my v3 as a pre-amp only I'd get at least 4.5 hours.

there is no switch for changing the voltage on the v-2. the 4 pin xlr input is wired for both 6 and 12 volts. if you wire the cable pin 1 neg and pin 4 pos the v-2 will run on 12 volts, if you wire the cable pin 2 neg and pin 3 pos the v-2 will run off of 6 volts.
for the 9 volt lion battery i use the 6 volt system.

Of course. It's been too long since I ran one. Thanks fo the correction, Ed.

The V2 has Jumpers J21 and J22 for 6-12v selection (see page 2 of: http://www.gracedesign.com/support/v2_voltage_cal.pdf). Like on the V3, these only affect the Low Batt LED and auto shut off point. The 4 pin XLR wiring that Ed is referring to is on the battery end for Eco-Charge Batteries. The 4 pin jack on the V2 has pins 3 and 4 (+ voltage) connected and pins 1 and 2 (- ground) connected. We recommend using pin 4 for + and pin 1 for ground.

Does anyone know the size of the connector for a V2 power cable using the portable DVD player batteries like the ones discussed in this thread?

so i think its one of these two.

i was also wondering about making a cable that allows me to run two batts in parrallel. i remember someone saying that you should use a diode. but cannot seem to find that thread. anyone have any advice(other than ordering from kindcables).
found this thread, thanks NOLA

I got ya justy..... obviously the V2 end has a 4pin XLR style and the DVD "wally world" lithium battery has a barrel style type "B" plug. Don't know if the type "B" is a universal code name.... but that's what Radio Shack calls that size in their "Adapta-Plug" series.
Outer Diameter: 4.0mm
Inner Diameter : 1.7mm
Radio Shack part # : 273-1705
edit to add: If you're running an adaptaplug cable, I think this is what you want. If you're running some other type of cable, this is still the size that you want. Hope that helps.

So this is the Walmart 9v lithium?

Label on it is different than any I have seen in the past but the specs are the same and the physical appearance is otherwise identical; however, the price has gone up $20 since the last time I saw one of those in WallyWorld. There is a thread around here somewhere about an ebay seller who has those for less than $20 shipped. I highly recommend going that route rather than waldoworld.
