Title: 9v DVD Battery - Which one to use?
Post by: rockymtnryan on November 07, 2011, 03:18:39 PM
Wanted to get the TS opinion on this.  I have 2 DVD batteries, one is 2600 mAh and the other is 5400 mAh.  Right now I use the newer 2600 to power my V3, and the older 5400 to power the HD-P2.  Would switching the batteries do much for my overall recording time?  Basically is the pre consuming more than the recorder, or other way around?  Does it matter if the recorder is just a bucket via s/pdif or doing a little more via XLR input?

Thanks!

Use the higher MAH one for the v3 which is supplying phanton and A>D conversion.

The 2600 should power your deck for 8+/- hours:  (2600/9) / 35 = 8.25...  The 35 being the draw of the P2 (with p48).  Assume it is much less w/o the p48.  Not sure what the draw on a V3 is, but whatever it is, the 5400 will in effect double the V3's life vs. the 2600.

Since my 9v DVD battery died, and I've been too poor/too lazy to get a new 12v solution for my HD-P2, I've been using recharge AA batteries.  The ones I have are like 2500mAh capacity, and they last about 4hours with p48.  They get me through the night at the bar - 10pm to 2am - easy...

Yeah I've got a bunch of Sanyo Enloop rechargeable AA's in the bag as back-up and they do well.  Quick charge and seem to hold it for a long time too.

I've only used the V3 a few times so far and I've had it doing most of the work, p48 and A/D conversion, then dumping to the HD-P2 via digital connection.  Gonna try using the XLR out to the HD-P2 this weekend.  I'll try to bigger battery on the V3 since its powering the mics, wondering with the HD-P2 doing more work (A/D) that way if it will matter much.

Big thanks BTW to Ted as he's made all of my cables! Fantastic craftsmanship.
