Title: V3 vs. Mini-MP
Post by: drowned_in_milk on March 10, 2004, 10:36:21 AM
How do they stack up?  What are the advantages that one has over the other?

you are comparing apples to oranges- you are comparing a pre/ad combo to just a pre.  if you wanted a more fair comp it would be the v3 to the minime, but that may have been done once before

do you just want a preamp?

if so you'd want to compare V2 to the MiniMp

from the coupla shows I've heard, I'd say the mmp is closer to the psp-3 than the v2. A little brighter, nice and detailed, good sound. would not run one over a v2 though, based on what I've heard so far.

I think Marc's analysis is fair, though I haven't listened to much either.

Nizzle will chime in soon... he hates the Grace pres.

I'd run a v2, sax or psp-3 if you favor non-transformer, before I'd fool with that thing, particularly if you run a mme also. Nice sounding, but so are the other boxes, and they are all probably ergonomically easier to deal with.

I'm starting to lust after my V2->Minime setup from this summer...

The mini-mp sound is somewhere between that of the sonosax and v2.  I find it just as detailed in the high end as the v2, while providing rich warm tones throughout the spectrum.  It's much brighter than the pre in the mini-me, which I like.  I found the mini-me to be too colored, almost to the point where it lacked detail.  Anyway, if you want to hear more, PM me.

The mini mp is the most acurrate and best sounding pre I have ever run, I would in no way compare it to a mp2, it is much more detailed.  I tend to think that the v2s are not very acurrate in the low and low mid area.  This is in my mind where the mmp excels, also I fell that the highs are much nicer.  Thet ring instead off hiss.  If you wnat an all in one box that will run forever off one battery then get a V3, personally I don't like the sound as much, there is a STS9 from the section at Fillmore in denver in the BT section, Todd R has my galactic from the same venue, and may be posting it soon on co tapers.
