Hi, has anyone ever used the Portico 511 for concert recording (rock type stuff)? I know it's single channel, so you'd need two of them. But even buying two is about half of what a 5012 costs ($1090 versus $1725). Any opinions?

Am I reading right that it needs 16V? Seems bit tough to power in the field

Don't you need a API 500 Series Lunchbox or compatible to run the 500 series modules? I think that is why the 5012 (standalone) cost more.

Yes you need a 500 series rack w/ appropriate PS
Most PS's are AC only
The 500 series chAssis provides your XLR connectors and power (typically including -15/+15 and +48v)
Grace also makes 500 series pre's

Yeah, you need a lunchbox or similar chassis and most/all of those are AC. I've thought about doing this before with the Neve or Great River stuff but it never materialized due to that.

Depends. I used to think so too until I ran a sonosax which worked best the more you fed it (up to 24v). Granted, some things like that hsp82 which require 9-16 is tough because of the amperage. I don't know what you'd need in terms of running a 500 series module, but I bet it's not power efficient.

Thanks for the knowledge...if you need the chassis then it would be somewhat difficult to run in the field. That also explains the price delta.
