Title: DIY projects
Post by: Daryan on October 15, 2004, 08:00:36 AM
So, after making these cat 5 cables, I need a new project to play around with.  Any good ones?  Power chords, silver interconnects, etc?

there are some good power cord ones out there, but first- do you have a good set of speaker and amp/pre stands?

No, I sure don't.  I am honestly just looking for things to do, and this stuff seemed like fun the first go around.  I need stands for my rear's, rocket something or others, bookshelf size.  I couldn't image neding stands for the swans!

Thanks J

i've gone the diy route for both my interconnects and power cords and i think both projects are worthwhile.  i opted to make copper interconnects since i thought it would be closer to the kind of sound i'm looking for, if you consider some copper ics check out jon risch's notes (link below).

for the power cord i went with a slightly modified bob crump recipe (link below).  my only deviation from the recipe was using higer quality marinco plugs instead of the suggested schurter and pass & seymour plugs.  also i had all the plugs and cable cryoed, from what i've read it is well worth the added expense.  at the same time i upgraded my power outlet, you might want to consider doing the same.

if you're looking for parts check out take five audio (link below), they've got tons of diy parts at good prices.  i've bought pretty much all my diy supplies from them and they've always taken good care of me.

I am gonna start by attempting to mod my 4960 player.  I got the directions off of audiocircle, and as long as I don't blow the sucker up, it looks easy enough (Iinsert Boom comment here.)  I think I will ask mexi to help though, as he has a much steadier hand than I do.  All those mods I posted about, cost a whopping 31 dollars in parts from digikey this morning.  I think I will change out the opamps while I am at it, and reccomendations.  I may even do the rossi mod on there too!

I know, but the thing only cost 80 bucks, if I blow it up, the only thing that can happen is I lose 80 bucks.  Gotta start somewhere... ;D
