I have a few stealth jobs coming up that I don't think someone will audio record...whats a decent mic to help me get better sound of my camera

Sennheiser ME66 shotgun. Short shotgun. Very popular mic amongst video-heads. Takes battery power or phantom. Freq response is 40 - 20,000. Run about $300 used on eBay.

pretty much any mic that you use for audio can be used for camcorders. i recommend the realistic 33-1065 if you can find one (it's out of production). old school stealth filmers will agree.

First you need to decide which camera you will work with?
There is a significant difference between the microphone for the gopro camera and the powerful DSLR Video Cameras
I recommend to look from models Razer, Apogee and Rode - these are probably the most budget and high-quality options.
maybe this review can help you with the choice:

I use a Rode Stereo Videomic Pro with integrated Rycote shockmount. It's x/y stereo, so not great for dialog, but good for ambient sound in a run-and-gun situation. Considering the price, I'm very satisfied with it for family videos and the very limited amount of concert video I've shot.

The question was asked in 2004. ;)
I hope he found what he was looking for. :)

I heard through credible sources that, like Bono, he STILL hasn't found what he's looking for.
I recommend the Sony ECM 907C.
