Title: Car harness adapters
Post by: Lil Kim Jong-Il on November 30, 2004, 08:27:11 PM
I want to install an after market CD unit and I  don't want to cut any wires in the OEM harness.  I've tried all the usual places online and no luck.  I have the connector for the rear of the replacement alpine unit, so in absence of a prewired adapter, I could splice the connector I have with a connector that mates to the harness if I could find that.  The other side is for a circa 1986 blaupunkt radio/CD player.

Any ideas where can I get a harness adapter?

crutchfield.com or sounddomain.com

they have them.  what kind of car?  and it's for a new alpine unit?

no luck either place

The car: 1986 porsche 911
The reciever/CD: 1994 Alpine 7814

I have not found any adapters except for the newer cars.  I have the harness connector and wiring diagram for the Alpine, so if I could find a harness socket for the car, I'd be able to make it work.

oh well i had no idea it was a porsche :)

call the crutchfield guys.  they may try to rip you off, but the advice is free.  you might be able to find someone who knows what to do

couldn't you just take the car-side half of the old harness and splice it with the new one?  That's what I'd do if I'm understanding what you're getting at...

The old harness is just the OEM wiring direct to the original cassette reciever.  I do not want to splice into that wiring because the car is a preservation project and I want to keep it unmodified in all respects.

I called crutchfield and they have a harness to connect to the OEM speaker harness that uses the indash fader, but for the power harness there is nothing available.  That agrees with everythign else I have found on the web.   I may just have to find a unit from a car a few years later in the line.  The problem is that those are getting very hard to locate.
