Nick:

couldn't you use the marantz to handle your coax-in duties and then x-fer from the marantz to your pc?

I agree, PITA, which is why I bought a DiO 2496 back in the day.  Well the PITA and to be ready for optical digital devices, one of which I am yet to start using.
If your friend is feeling ambitious: http://www.hoxnet.com/zoltrix/  (I am assuming this adds COAX IN, since the mainboard has COAX OUT if I remember correctly)

I remember when these cards/mods were all the rage.  I guess I'm getting old ;-)

no doubt, $85 shipped from zip-zoom-fly is nice.

$69 for a "repackaged" one.
thats a steal.  I remember when i paid A LOT for this card a few years ago.
:(

i should buy one of those silly chaintechs for my PC > Sony.  Just need a 25' Toslink and i'll be in business.
:)
that would be pretty slick w/a Monarchy DIP box driving it.

Nick:

Indeed, $69 is SWEET, I've just never heard of any of the retailers selling at that price and have had great experience with zipzoomfly (bought my chaintech cards from 'em without incident) -- I bet the $69 retailers are charging a fair bit of the difference on the zipzoomfly price for shipping/handling, whereas zipzoomfly's price includes free fedex 2nd day :)

i run the coax from the ap2496 into the monarchy and the optical from the scd-c2000es (sacd player as transport)

tthe monarchy setup (2496 > upsampler) feeds my smART (soon to be mensa)...

been doing it for a while now...

i vowed never to own another M-Audio product...so that AP will never have a home w/me.
i'd trust the chaintech more.  and for shooting a digi signal, the cheaper the better.
