Powering question.....
So the 671 manual says that the power consumption is about 6w on average. So, does that mean it pulls .5a? (6 w/12 v = .5a)? Is this correct? Does that mean a 7 mah lead acid battery (powersonic) should run the thing about 14 hours via the external power input (but using DC)? What run times are people getting with 8 aa alkaline and 8 aa 2500 mah nimh batteries with the Oade ACM and phantom powering on? Any insight most appreciated.!
Lastly, if Neumann KM1xx draw about 200 milliamps, that means these plugged into the thing should draw about 700 mah?
Thanks!

Sounds like you have it pretty well figured out.
I used to power my km140's for a Looooooonnnnnggg time w/my 9v 5500mAh liON pack. I would expect and easy 12-14 hours out of your big chunk of lead.
as for internal AAs w/phantom running, I can't help you there.

Personally I'm going to try this thing right here. I already have a bunch of rechargeable AA's, but I don't trust them internally.

That's pretty nifty.
Here's my solution:

which of these battery geek models do yuns think would run for longer? Sorry if this is a dumb question. These are on sale right now. I like it because it seems to have the end hard wired into the battery. One is a 9-12 volt model. The other is 10-14.

So at 12V the second one should be ~7.3 AH while the first is ~5 AH (?).
This would lead me to believe that the second would be the way to go for longer life. It's a half pound heavier and just an inch thicker according to the specs.
I think my eco-charge is ~7.x AH, I run the V3/671 combo on this battery but haven't done any tests longer than (3) hours. Seems to have plenty of life left (according to the eco-charge built-in meter at (3) hours)

IMO, too pricey...

Cool, this thing arrived yesterday. The plug that comes on it fits the 671 and it powers right up. The box says 12V/2A output on it.

OK,
I spent about $4 in the local electronics store, and got something similar to above.... I bought:
1. An 8 cell AA plastic holder
2. A right angle DC plug (2.2 mm internal diameter I believe) with nice, flexible wire coming off it.
I just soldered the wire to the battery box (positive post to inside on plug), and wrapped it up with some electrical tape. I can run an ACM 671 w/ phantom powering and light on for about 4.5 to 4.75 hours, using the Energizer 2500 mah Nimh cells. I use it for long festivals (easier to just plug this in then ripping the bag open to get at the battery compartment after the first 4 hours or so of recording). It works great, and it's cheap. It will provide peace of mind to those with the internal use of the Nimh issue. I would like to point out, this porblem has NOT occurred to me using the Energizer batteries. Also, Oade recommends the Duracell Nimh, beause of the positive post length. When holding an Energizer next to it, they APPEAR visually to be the same length.
Good luck
P.S. What Nimh batteries were people using when the deck seemed to mysteriously conk out?

I've noticed something strange about my 671. Sometimes it locks up when I turn the power on. It happens a bunch with the new battery pack I'm running. I turn it on , the screen lights up, but it never goes to the "reading" the card part. At this point the buttons are locked out. I have to unplug the battery and plug it back in. Then it works fine. But, if I turn it off, I have to pull the plug again so it won't lock up when I power it back on. This has happened a couple times under AC power also. It happens if I don't let the thing sit for a second before hitting the power button. I've seen a little message that says "loading" when you insert a power source. Am I trying to power it before the firmware is loaded or something? ANybody else have this problem?

hmmmm...never happened to my stock one.

Doug says his does the same thing. You basically have to connect the power for a couple seconds before you reach for the switch. I guess I'm just hurrying too much.

Duracell 2500 mAh work in the sled. PowerEx 2500 mAh also work in the sled. I've had problems with Powerizer 2250 mAh and iPowerUS 2300 mAh NiMH.

Anyone using R/C batteries? I've got a few NiMH 9.6v (3000mAh) that I'm wondering if I'll be able to use.
-
oh yea, those will work fine.
one of them will run for 4+ hours, im sure.
-
cool, I'll run some tests and report back on run times.
-
anyone using the Wal-Mart battery for power?
Tommy

I was. 5000mah lion. 7+ hours running line in and there was lots of battery left at that point still.

thanks for the info...what about running mic in?
-
I dont recall how long it powered my 140s, but it was "long enough" to say the least.

FWIW.....If you are using a wal-mart DVD battery to power this unit, it takes the "B" tip for the battery and the "M" tip for the unit.
I'm running a run time test right now. I'll post results later......just remember the mics I'm running are power hungry so you may get a little better time than I will.
Tommy
sorrry for the cross post.

tommy, I must say I have to get one of these batteries if your marantz is still running
which one is it the 9v or the 7.2?
-
we have one already, remember. it came w/ the aiwa deck. not sure what the voltage is though. a trip to the shack is in order.

I don't think the 7.2v battery will work. 9v DC is stretching it as the recorder runs at 12v DC nominal.

chuck- does that mean that none of the "walmart" dvd batts will work?

if i recall correctly, there are 2 diff 'walmart' dvd batts, 7.2v and 9v ones, id say the 9v ones should work just fine tho ive never touched a 'walmart' dvd battery, let alone ran one, just stating what ive heard others say on this board :)

Bean has it right. I've not done it either, but others have. Just use the 9v DC version.

sorry it took so long for me to find this.....I got well over 5 hrs recording using the wal-mart 9V battery.
