Title: Unrecognised File. Possibly a Bad Header Problem.
Post by: DaveG73 on November 15, 2007, 06:18:47 PM
I have just been sent a file from a friend who is in a band of a new track.

It was supposed to be in M4A format, but my computer doesn't recognise it (PC running XP) neither does a friends who is on a Mac running OS10.x.x, despite the fact that we both run iTunes on our 'puters.

After consultation it appears it is coming through as an "Octet Stream" which will open it in word pad on my PC as a string of unintelligable charecters. I seem to remember having this issue before, but I have no recollection of how I resolved the problem.

Anyone cast any light on this, preferrably in terms of something a 2 year old could understand, as my computer skills are not great.

TIA

Dave.

You need to open up that email with your email program and save the attachment as an .M4A type file on your local disc. The import the file into an application that understands that format. In this case iTunes. Import the file using iTunes.

Or foobar2000 if you are on Wintel.
